Dontaye Carter for Mayor of Sandy Springs
Dontaye Carter is a former journalist, loving husband and father, successful business owner, and years-long resident of Sandy Springs. In 2021, he launched his campaign to run for Mayor of Sandy Springs.
I worked closely with Dontaye and his campaign manager, Maria Banjo, to develop a look and feel that felt authentic to Dontaye, a life-long social justice activist. The branding includes the typeface Martin (designed by Tré Seals of Vocal Type) as an homage to Martin Luther King, Jr., and the rich history of the civil rights movement in the South.
Dontaye earned 31.07% of the votes, capturing 5,361 votes — three times as many votes as anyone who has ever challenged incumbent Rusty Paul. To quote Dontaye: “While this is not the outcome we hoped for, we led an incredible grassroots movement with empathy, hope, and a vision for a brighter future. That momentum is here to stay.”
